Umoja, a Swahili word meaning "unity," will be anchored in Kenya and traverse several East, Central, and Southern African nations. These include Uganda, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, where it will connect to the Google Cloud region before venturing across the Indian Ocean to Perth, Western Australia.

"Umoja will enable African countries to more reliably connect with each other and the rest of the world," said Brian Quigley, Vice President of Global Network Infrastructure for Google Cloud.
