Declutter Your Device: A Guide to Deleting Downloaded Files on iPhone and Android
Does your phone feel sluggish? Are you constantly bombarded with "storage full" warnings? It might be time to spring clean your downloaded files! Unlike apps, which live prominently in your app drawer, downloaded files can lurk unseen, silently consuming precious storage space.
iPhone: Cleaning Up the Downloads Folder
  1. Locate the Downloads Folder: Open the Files app, a pre-installed app on all iPhones. Navigate to the Browse tab (if available) and look for the Downloads folder. This is where most of your downloaded files reside.
  2. Selection Time: Take a good look at the files. Identify the ones you no longer need, whether they're old PDFs, outdated movies, or forgotten vacation photos.
  3. Delete with a Long Press: Long press the first file you want to delete. This will activate the selection mode. You can then tap on additional files to delete them in bulk.
  4. Confirm and Delete: Once you've selected all the unwanted downloads, tap the Delete icon (usually a trash can symbol) to permanently remove them from your device.
Android: Conquering Downloads Across Apps
Unlike iPhones, where downloads are usually centralised, Android offers more flexibility (and sometimes, more confusion!) Here's how to tackle downloads on your Android device:
Method 1: Using the Files App (Most Common)
  1. Open the Files App: Most Android phones come with a pre-installed Files app. If yours doesn't have one, you can download a reputable file manager from the Google Play Store.
  2. Finding the Downloads: Within the Files app, look for a folder labelled Downloads. This is the most likely location for your downloaded content.
  3. Selection and Deletion: The process from here mirrors the iPhone method. Long press to select files and tap the delete icon to send them packing.
Method 2: Exploring Other Apps
If you can't locate a dedicated Downloads folder in the Files app, some apps might store their downloads within their own folders. For instance, downloaded Chrome PDFs might be found within a Chrome folder. Explore the Files app to see if downloaded files reside within specific app folders.
Windows: File explorer
Look for downloads in the left pane
If not there c:\users\”username”\downloads
