Remember the looming TikTok ban in the US? Well, in a surprising move, TikTok has attempted to defend itself against a potential ban in the United States by highlighting the data collection practices of other Chinese companies, including Shein and Temu. The social media app is fighting to block a law that could force it to be sold or banned in the US. During a recent court hearing, TikTok's legal team argued that the law unfairly targets the app while overlooking other Chinese companies that may be collecting even more data. Shein and Temu, both popular ecommerce platforms with Chinese origins, were specifically mentioned as examples of companies that collect significant amounts of user data. TikTok's legal team argued that these companies should also be subject to the same scrutiny as TikTok. However, the judge presiding over the case expressed scepticism about this argument, suggesting that the law targets a specific category of companies, not just TikTok itself. The Department of Justice also defended the law, stating that the exclusion clause for certain types of businesses can be removed without invalidating the entire legislation. Shein is primarily known for its fast fashion model, offering a wide range of trendy clothing and accessories at affordable prices. It emphasises quick turnaround times and frequent updates to its product line. Shein's target market is primarily young women seeking stylish and affordable fashion options. Temu has a broader product range, including not only clothing but also electronics, home goods, and other consumer products. It also focuses on offering low prices and competitive deals, often leveraging group buying and flash sales strategies. Temu's target market is wider and includes a diverse range of consumers seeking affordable products. …not really the same type of company as Tikok Ep239 More on miteradio.com.au (press play)
