Generally, it will not void your warranty as a relatively new warranty act prevents manufacturers from insting you use their ink products. That said, if they can prove the fault is due to non-genuine ink, they can legitimately void any warranty claims.
Some ink refill sets cost as much as the entire printer, so worst case you purchase another printer - if and when you encounter problems with non-genuine inks. Other disadvantages: Some inks are guaranteed not to fade - a good thing for those treasured photos, but you will likely still have the digital to reprint if needed. Inferior Ink can lead to inconsistent and/or lower quality prints, clogged print heads, leaks and you generally have more problems trying to get a refund from faulty cartridges.
