My Health App

Good news for Australians managing their health: an update to the My Health app is rolling out, allowing users to store and access their electronic prescriptions directly on their phones.

This new feature means no more lost paper scripts or scrambling to find them at the pharmacy. When you receive an e-prescription via SMS, you can now add it to the My Health app (a bit like the wallet apps). A barcode within the app can then be scanned at the pharmacy to dispense your medication.

Dr. Amandeep Hansra from the Australian Digital Health Agency is encouraging patients to ask their doctors for electronic prescriptions to take advantage of this new functionality.

Pharmacists and patients are praising the update as a major step forward. Pharmacist Nick Logan calls it a "breakthrough" for healthcare, emphasizing the importance of having concise and real-time information readily available. Patients like Caitlin Radford, who manage multiple medications, are also welcoming the convenience of having everything in one place.

This upgrade comes as the government works to further enhance the My Health Record system. Legislation is currently before parliament to mandate the uploading of blood test results and scans to the platform. Health Minister Mark Butler highlights the inefficiency of the current system, where test results are often lost, requiring patients to undergo repeat testing.
