Deleting Files in the iCloud

Some Apple Love… We've all been there: hit delete on a file only to realise it was a critical document or a photo you accidentally sent to the wrong person. Thankfully, Apple offers a safety net with "Recently Deleted" folders on your devices. But what about the cloud?  Those "deleted" files might still be lurking in iCloud, accessible for a period of time.  This can be a security risk, especially if you're selling a device or want to ensure sensitive information is truly gone.

1. Accessing iCloud's Recently Deleted:

• Head to iCloud.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
  
• Click on "Drive" to access your iCloud storage.
  
• On the left-hand side, locate and click on "Recently Deleted."
  

This section displays all files you've deleted from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac that were synced with iCloud. So if nothing there, you’re all good!
2. If you want to recover or Permanently Deleting a File:

• Select it and click "Recover." It will return to its original location within your iCloud Drive.
  
• For permanent deletion, select the unwanted file(s) and click "Delete."
  

3. Important Considerations:

• Just like on your devices, deleted files in iCloud remain accessible for 30 days before being permanently erased.
  
• Remember, this applies to all file types stored in iCloud Drive, not just photos or documents.
  

4. Bonus Tip: Emptying the Trash Completely
While not technically in the cloud, it's worth noting that deleted emails in iCloud Mail also reside in a "Trash" folder for 30 days before permanent deletion. Access your iCloud Mail through the web interface and empty the trash to ensure emails are truly gone.
