Google's decision to tighten its app store policies reflects the growing concern over the quality and security of mobile applications. By removing low-quality apps, the company hopes to improve user satisfaction and trust in the Play Store. I guess the definition of “low quality” may be subjective and will likely require human input. The changes will primarily affect new apps that are submitted to the Play Store. Existing apps on your device will not be removed unless they violate the new guidelines in the future. Even then, security restrictions will prevent apps from being automatically deleted. Maybe that will change. While the purge is a step in the right direction, it remains to be seen how effective it will be in eliminating malicious apps from the ecosystem.
