The sun is shining bright on Australia's renewable energy future! The Federal Government, along with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), has announced a major rollout of community batteries across the country. This initiative is set to benefit a whopping 370 communities and up to 100,000 households!

What are Community Batteries?
Imagine a giant, shared battery for your neighbourhood. That's the concept behind community batteries. These stationary batteries connect to the grid, allowing residents with rooftop solar to store excess solar energy during the day and use it when needed, even after sunset. This means:

• More homes can benefit from solar: Even households without rooftop solar can enjoy the advantages of renewable energy through community batteries.
• Reduced pressure on the grid: By storing excess solar power, community batteries help ease pressure on the electricity grid during peak times.
• Lower electricity costs: Increased reliance on renewable energy can potentially lead to lower electricity bills for consumers.

A Nationwide Boost for Renewables
The program boasts a significant investment:

• ARENA has conditionally approved $143 million for the batteries, unlocking an expected $359 million in total renewable energy investment.
• Over 420 community batteries will be installed across all states and territories, with NSW receiving the most at nearly 100 installations.
