The BBC report warns that it’s about to get worse. As we move toward more autonomous features, cars will need even more cameras—inside and out—to function. This creates a massive cybersecurity risk. If a hacker gets into your car’s system, they aren’t just stealing your credit card info; they’re seeing where you live, where you work, and potentially even listening to your private conversations.

So, what can you do?

1. Check your settings: Dig into your car’s infotainment menu. Some manufacturers allow you to "opt-out" of certain data sharing—though they don’t make it easy to find.
2. Read the fine print: Next time you download your car’s companion app, actually look at those privacy permissions.
3. Be aware: Simply knowing that your car is a data-collecting hub is the first step in demanding better privacy laws for the road.
