Aussies will go Back to Diesel

​A recent study conducted by McKinsey and Co. has unveiled a surprising trend among Australia's electric vehicle (EV) owners. The 2024 Mobility Consumer Pulse report, which surveyed over 30,000 motorists worldwide, revealed that 49% of Australian EV owners are likely to go back to petrol or diesel-powered cars for their next vehicle purchase.

The study highlights several factors influencing this shift in preference among Australian EV owners. Key concerns include public charging limitations (35%), ownership costs (34%), range limitations on long trips (32%), and a lack of home charging capability (24%).

Interestingly, the report also found that Australia has the highest rate of EV owners considering a return to petrol or diesel vehicles, surpassing the 29% global average. Additionally, 63% of Australian respondents indicated that they "don't like to occupy themselves with new technology," which is 8% higher than the global average response.

While the Australian EV market has shown signs of growth, with a 26.8% increase in year-to-date sales compared to last year, this study suggests that there's still a significant portion of EV owners who are dissatisfied with their experience.

As Australia aims to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable transportation future, addressing these concerns will be crucial to ensure the continued adoption of electric vehicles and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
