Telstra TV Shutdown Looms: Time to Upgrade

Telstra TV users are facing an unwelcome surprise: the device is being discontinued on November 1st.

This means thousands of Australians will need to find a replacement for their beloved streaming box.

The decision to phase out the Telstra TV has sparked frustration among users, as the device still functions well for many. However, with no alternative, consumers are scrambling to find suitable replacements.
Picture
Key options for replacing your Telstra TV:
  • Fetch TV: Telstra's own offering, Fetch TV, is a potential replacement. It offers a similar feature set but lacks support for some popular streaming services like Kayo and Binge.
  • Chromecast with Google TV: This versatile device provides access to a wide range of apps and services, including Kayo and Binge.
  • Amazon Fire TV: Another strong contender, offering a similar feature set to the Chromecast with Google TV.

While the shutdown of Telstra TV is undoubtedly inconvenient, it also presents an opportunity to upgrade to a more feature-rich and future-proof streaming device.
While on the topic, and much like ISP’s moving away from email services, don’t just automatically go for an Optus solution. Given the trend of telcos moving away from hardware-based TV services, it's plausible that Optus might follow suit. However, there's no official confirmation of this at this time.

Have you started planning your Telstra TV replacement? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.

The Future of Vascular Imaging: AI and 4D Imaging

Vascular imaging is rapidly evolving, with two key technologies leading the charge: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 4D Imaging.

AI in Imaging: AI is revolutionizing vascular diagnostics by analyzing vast amounts of imaging data quickly and accurately. It can identify patterns and detect early signs of vascular diseases that might be missed by the human eye. This means faster, more precise diagnoses, and ultimately, better patient outcomes. AI is especially powerful in spotting subtle changes in blood vessels, enabling early intervention and more personalized treatment plans
Picture
4D Imaging: Building on traditional 3D imaging, 4D imaging adds the element of time, allowing doctors to see blood flow in real-time. This dynamic visualization helps in understanding how blood moves through the vessels, which is crucial for diagnosing conditions like blockages or aneurysms. 4D imaging provides a more comprehensive picture, making it easier for doctors to pinpoint issues and plan effective treatments.

Together, AI and 4D imaging are setting new standards in vascular care, making diagnosis more accurate and treatments more targeted. The future of vascular imaging is not just about seeing blood vessels—it’s about understanding them in ways we never could before.

Digital Resurrection: Bringing Back the Dead... Virtually!

In the rapidly advancing world of technology, we've seen some incredible innovations—from AI-generated art to robots patrolling our streets. But perhaps the most intriguing and controversial development is digital resurrection, where AI is used to create eerily lifelike digital avatars of people who have passed away. By gathering data from social media profiles, old photos, videos, and voice recordings, companies can now craft a virtual version of your loved ones that can chat, share memories, and even crack jokes.
Picture
The idea of interacting with a digital doppelgänger of a deceased loved one might seem comforting to some and unsettling to others. On one hand, it offers a unique way to keep memories alive, allowing future generations to connect with their ancestors in a way that was never possible before. Imagine asking your great-grandfather about his life during the Great Depression or hearing your mother’s voice offering advice long after she’s gone.

However, digital resurrection also opens a Pandora's box of ethical questions. Who owns the rights to your digital self? How do we ensure these avatars are used respectfully and not exploited? The thought of someone manipulating your digital likeness or turning it into a meme is enough to make anyone uneasy. Moreover, there’s the emotional impact to consider—while some might find comfort in this digital extension of life, others may feel it hinders the natural process of grieving and moving on.

As with all things tech, digital resurrection is still in its infancy, and its future remains uncertain. Whether it becomes a powerful tool for connection or a passing fad, it certainly offers a fascinating glimpse into the potential—and pitfalls—of blending technology with the most human of experiences. So, the next time you receive a friend request from beyond, don’t be too alarmed. It’s just another chapter in our ongoing quest to cheat death, if only virtually.

And with that, we leave you with a thought: In a world where the dead can "live" again, maybe it’s time to start curating your digital life—because you never know who might be scrolling through it in 100 years!

This is MITE Radio, where we make I.T. easy—even when it borders on the absurd.

AI Fuels New Cyber Threats

AI Fuels New Cyber Threats, Experts Struggle to Keep Up

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is creating new opportunities for cybercriminals to exploit Australians, with experts struggling to keep pace with the rapidly evolving threats. Dr. Chao Chen, a cybersecurity expert at RMIT’s (College of Business and Law), warns that AI is enabling more personalised and effective cybercrimes, from deep fake scams to AI-enhanced phishing attacks.
Picture
Recent data shows Australians lost $2.74 billion to scams last year, a sharp increase from $851 million in 2020. AI is automating and scaling up these attacks, making them harder to detect. For example, AI-generated fake videos and messages have tricked victims into losing large sums of money.

To counter these threats, Dr. Chen suggests that cybersecurity firms need to focus on developing AI tools that can detect and mitigate AI-generated scams. Additionally, establishing rapid response teams and conducting thorough post-incident analyses could help strengthen the industry's ability to tackle these new challenges.

AI also poses risks in critical areas like autonomous vehicles and medical diagnosis by potentially manipulating data inputs. Despite rising awareness, Australia faces a shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals trained in AI, complicating efforts to counter these threats.

The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) acknowledges the risks and continues updating guidelines to protect against AI-driven cybercrimes. To stay safe, experts recommend using strong passphrases, multi-factor authentication, and staying vigilant against these sophisticated attacks.

Mush Plushies

Are Mush Plushies: Your New Weighted BFF or Just Another Overhyped Cuddle Buddy?
Have you seen the TikTok hype?

Are you wondering if this weighted plush thing is the real deal or just another internet fad. Let’s dive - just a little, into the world of Mush Plushies and find out if they’re worth the hype (or if indeed - they’re just a big, cuddly rip-off).

These plush pals are supposed to be your new weighted bestie, offering a calming hug 24/7. They promise to melt away stress, improve sleep, and generally make you feel like you’re being gently crushed by a giant, adorable teddy bear. They can also light up in the belly region as a night light and they simulate breathing to make them feel a little bit more real.

Picture
The Reality: Well, it’s a plush. It’s soft. It’s got some weight to it. Does it magically cure insomnia? Probably not. Is it nice to cuddle? Absolutely. The truth is, Mush Plushies are less of a miracle cure and more of a comforting companion. They’re like a warm hug on demand, but don’t expect them to replace therapy or a good night’s sleep.

Who Should Get One?
  • If you’re a hugger, this might be your new best friend.
  • Those seeking a little extra comfort: The weight can be soothing for some, especially if you struggle with anxiety.
  • People who want to annoy their cat: Let’s be honest, cats love batting at anything, and a weighted plush is just irresistible.

Who Should Probably Skip It?
  • If you have back issues: The weight might not be ideal.
  • Those expecting a miracle cure: Mush Plushies are nice, but they’re not a magic wand for mental health.
  • If you have other cuddly toys… You probably don’t need another stuffed animal taking up space.

The Verdict: Mush Plushies are cute, cuddly, and can be a comforting addition to your life. But they’re not a magical cure-all. If you’re looking for a weighted hug and don’t mind spending a bit of cash, give them a try. Just remember, therapy is still a thing, and a good night’s sleep often comes down to more than just a plush toy.
So, there you have it. Now go forth and decide if you need a weighted cuddle buddy in your life!

In case you’re wondering, I vote no.

The Eco-Flow Power Hat

Move over Solar Bikini, the Australian company EcoFlow, known for its portable power stations, has taken a quirky turn with its latest product: the Power Hat. This solar-powered floppy hat is designed to charge your phone while you soak up the sun.
With a 12-watt output, the Power Hat can fully charge a 4,000mAh smartphone in about 3-4 hours. The hat features a durable design, with an IP65 rating for water resistance. However, the hat's weight of 370 grams might make it feel a bit heavy for extended wear… Just thinking more about this, I’m not expecting people to accompany their hats in the sun for 4 hours to charge their phone batteries.
Picture
The whole concept might seem a bit unconventional, but the Power Hat could be a practical accessory for outdoor enthusiasts and festival-goers. It offers a sustainable and convenient way to keep your devices charged while enjoying the sunshine.
The Power Hat is expected to be available mid spring in time for the coming summer.

When iiNet announced it was no longer providing email as part of the internet package, customers had the option of moving over to Messaging Co as they struck a deal with iiNet to help iiNet customers keep their email addresses going forward. The catch was it was five from 12 months then you had to pay a yearly fee.

So time has passed and many customers are tired of dealing with The Messaging Company's (apparently) unreliable service and exorbitant fees ($4.95pm). It might be time to consider switching to a new email provider. While the process can seem daunting, it's often simpler than you might think.
Picture
You may already have a Gmail account (15GB) and Windows users will have a Microsoft account (Outlook 15GB)

Why Switch?

There are several reasons why you might consider leaving The Messaging Company:
  • Reliability: Frequent outages or slow email delivery can be frustrating.
  • Cost: Excessive fees or hidden charges might be a factor.
  • Features: Lack of desired features like ample storage or advanced security options.
  • Customer Service: Poor customer support can be a deal-breaker.

Choosing a New ProviderWhen selecting a new email provider, consider the following factors:
  • Cost: Compare pricing plans and features offered by different providers.
  • Storage: Ensure the provider offers sufficient storage for your needs.
  • Security: Look for providers with strong security measures, such as two-factor authentication and encryption.
  • Features: Consider additional features like calendar, contacts, and spam filtering.
  • Ease of Migration: Check if the provider offers tools to help you transfer your emails and contacts.

The Migration ProcessTransferring your emails to a new provider typically involves the following steps:
  1. Choose a new provider: Research and select an email provider that meets your requirements.
  2. Set up a new email account: Create an account with your chosen provider.
  3. Configure email forwarding: Set up forwarding from your old email address to your new one.
  4. Import contacts: Transfer your contact list to the new email provider.
  5. Update email addresses: Inform contacts, businesses, and online services of your new email address.
  6. Cancel old account: Once you've successfully migrated your emails and contacts, you can cancel your account with The Messaging Company.

Tips for a Smooth Transition
  • Backup your emails: Before starting the migration process, create a backup of your important emails.
  • Update your email address: Ensure you update your email address in all your online accounts and subscriptions.
  • Allow sufficient time: The migration process can take time, especially if you have a large volume of emails.
  • Test your new email account: Send test emails to verify that everything is working correctly.

By following these steps and carefully selecting a new email provider, you can successfully transition away from The Messaging Company and enjoy a more reliable and satisfying email experience.

X TV: Can It Compete with Streaming Giants?

Elon Musk's X, formerly known as Twitter, is expanding its reach beyond the realm of social media with the launch of X TV. The new platform aims to deliver a YouTube-like experience, offering a mix of user-generated content, live streams, and potentially original programming.

Picture
While X TV's content library is still under development, we can expect a diverse range of videos, including:
  • Short-form content: Similar to TikTok and Instagram Reels, X TV will likely feature a plethora of short, engaging videos.
  • Live streams: Users can tune into live events, such as concerts, sports, and news broadcasts.
  • Original programming: X may invest in producing original shows and movies to compete with established streaming platforms.
  • User-generated content: The platform will likely rely heavily on user-generated content, similar to YouTube.

However, X TV faces significant challenges in competing with established streaming giants like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video. These platforms have invested heavily in content libraries, original programming, and user experience. To succeed, X TV will need to differentiate itself by offering unique content and features that appeal to a wide audience.

Additionally, concerns about content moderation and the potential for harmful content to proliferate on the platform remain. X's track record in addressing such issues on its main platform will be crucial to its success in the streaming space.

Ultimately, the success of X TV will depend on its ability to deliver a compelling user experience, attract a large audience, and effectively compete with established players in the streaming market.

Do you think X TV has the potential to become a major player in the streaming industry?

The new app, now available on Google TV and Amazon Fire TV, brings the platform's content to the big screen.

Youtube Ads

Tired of those pesky YouTube ads interrupting your favourite videos? AdGuard might be the solution you've been looking for. This ad-blocking software has gained popularity for its effectiveness in filtering out unwanted advertisements, including those on YouTube.
Picture
How Does AdGuard Work?

AdGuard operates as a comprehensive ad-blocking solution, protecting you from intrusive ads across various platforms, including websites, apps, and even games. When it comes to YouTube, AdGuard employs a multi-pronged approach:

  • DNS-level blocking: Prevents ads from loading by filtering out ad servers.
  • Browser extensions: Blocks ads within web browsers, including YouTube.
  • Mobile app: Offers ad-blocking capabilities for Android and iOS devices, including YouTube.
By combining these methods, AdGuard provides a robust defence against YouTube ads, allowing you to enjoy uninterrupted viewing.

Limitations and Considerations:

While AdGuard is highly effective, it's essential to note that YouTube's ad format and ad-blocking technologies are constantly evolving. AdGuard may not be able to block all ads, especially in the case of new ad formats.

Additionally, using ad-blocking software might raise ethical concerns about supporting content creators who rely on ad revenue. Some users prefer to pay for YouTube Premium to enjoy an ad-free experience while directly supporting their favourite channels.

Conclusion:

AdGuard can significantly enhance your YouTube experience by eliminating intrusive ads. However, it's crucial to weigh the benefits of ad-free viewing against the potential impact on content creators and the effectiveness of the ad-blocker itself.

Have you tried using AdGuard to block YouTube ads? Share your experiences in the comments below.

Disney's Password Crackdown

Disney's Password Crackdown: The End of Family Sharing?
Disney is cracking down on password sharing, with plans to enforce stricter account rules starting in September.

After months of speculation, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed the company's intention to restrict account sharing during the company's Q3 2024 earnings call. This move follows a similar strategy adopted by Netflix, which has seen a surge in subscribers since implementing its password-sharing crackdown.

Picture
Disney's decision is driven by the need to boost revenue and offset rising content production costs. By limiting account sharing, the company aims to encourage users to subscribe to their own individual accounts.
While Disney has introduced additional tiers and bundles to soften the blow of increased costs, many consumers are unhappy with the changes. The crackdown on password sharing is likely to lead to a decline in subscriber satisfaction and potentially drive users to explore alternative streaming platforms…
…which you should all be doing anyway. Look at the offerings every few months and take advantage of any free trials and bundle offers.
As the streaming wars intensify, it remains to be seen whether Disney's strategy will pay off in the long run, but hey if it worked for Netflix, it stands to reason the rest will eventually follow suit.

Google Play Store Apps to be Removed

Google to Purge Play Store of Junk Apps

Have you installed an App from the Google Play Store and found it to be wanting?

Google is set to clean house, with a major purge of low-quality and potentially harmful apps imminent.

The tech giant is cracking down on apps that offer little value to users, crash frequently, or contain malware. This move aims to create a more secure and enjoyable experience for Android users.

Picture
Key targets of the purge include:
  • Useless apps: Apps with minimal functionality or content, such as single-image or text-only programs.
  • Broken apps: Apps that crash, freeze, or exhibit other performance issues.
  • Malware and spyware: Apps that contain malicious code or steal user data.

Google's decision to tighten its app store policies reflects the growing concern over the quality and security of mobile applications. By removing low-quality apps, the company hopes to improve user satisfaction and trust in the Play Store. I guess the definition of “low quality” may be subjective and will likely require human input.
The changes will primarily affect new apps that are submitted to the Play Store. Existing apps on your device will not be removed unless they violate the new guidelines in the future. Even then, security restrictions will prevent apps from being automatically deleted. Maybe that will change.

While the purge is a step in the right direction, it remains to be seen how effective it will be in eliminating malicious apps from the ecosystem.

Do you think Google's crackdown on low-quality apps is a positive development?

Should I buy the Chromecast or the Streamer?

Should I buy the Chromecast or the Streamer?

Probably eventually both 🙂

Chomecast is a dongle, Streamer is more of a set top box solution.

Chromecast is cheaper and they will likely be selling them off even cheaper in coming months.
It does the job and is great to get a few more years of life out of your older TV.
Picture
Design and Portability
  • Chromecast: Compact and portable, the Chromecast plugs directly into your TV's HDMI port.
  • Google TV Streamer: A larger, set-top box design offers better connectivity options but sacrifices portability.
Hardware and Performance
  • Chromecast: Offers solid performance for basic streaming tasks.
  • Google TV Streamer: Boasts improved hardware with a faster processor, more RAM, and storage, resulting in smoother performance and quicker app loading times.
Features
  • Chromecast: Focuses on streaming content from your mobile device to the TV.
  • Google TV Streamer: Offers a full-fledged smart TV experience with a dedicated remote, voice assistant, and extensive app support.
Price
  • Chromecast: Generally more affordable than the Google TV Streamer.
  • Google TV Streamer: Offers better performance and features at a slightly higher price point.

OpenAI Launches SearchGPT: A Challenge to Google's Search Dominance?

OpenAI, the company behind the popular generative AI model ChatGPT, has thrown its hat into the search engine ring with the launch of SearchGPT. This new prototype aims to shake up the way we search for information online.

Picture
Here's what SearchGPT offers:
  • Conversational Search: Unlike traditional search engines that return only links, SearchGPT provides AI-powered summaries alongside search results, offering real-time information and context.
  • Follow-up Questions: Refine your search without needing to enter a new query. SearchGPT lets you ask follow-up questions to drill down and find the specific information you need.
  • Transparency and Source Attribution: SearchGPT prioritises user trust by highlighting the sources of its information. Each answer explicitly links back to the original webpage, allowing for easy fact-checking and further exploration.

OpenAI vs. Google: A Battle for Search Supremacy?
While SearchGPT appears to be a direct competitor to Google, OpenAI claims it has no intention of replacing the current search giant. Their goal is to integrate SearchGPT's best features into ChatGPT, enhancing its capabilities and providing a more comprehensive user experience.

The question remains: Can OpenAI dethrone Google's dominance? Here's a look at the current landscape:
  • Google's Strength: Google dominates the search scene with a staggering 91% market share. They've also been actively implementing AI into their search experience, albeit with some user concerns.
  • The Rise of AI Search: The success of Microsoft's Bing Copilot and Perplexity's AI search engine demonstrates a growing user interest in AI-powered search solutions.

The Future of Search: Collaboration or Competition?
With OpenAI entering the fray, the search engine landscape is becoming increasingly competitive. While OpenAI focuses on integrating AI into its chatbot experience, Google may have to adjust its strategy further.

Ultimately, the true winner in this battle could be the user. As both companies strive to refine their AI search features, users may benefit from a more intuitive, informative, and user-friendly search experience.

Donkey Kong Cheat

Do you remember Donkey Kong?

For those unfamiliar with the hallowed halls of arcade gaming, Donkey Kong is more than just a game; it's a battleground for high-score supremacy. The iconic platformer, released in 1981, has spawned countless hours of competitive play and, more recently, a full-blown legal feud.

At the heart of the controversy is Billy Mitchell, a name synonymous with gaming records. His 1,062,800 point Donkey Kong score was once the gold standard, a seemingly insurmountable peak in the world of arcade gaming. However, allegations of cheating began to cast a shadow over his achievements. Billy’s record was ultimately stripped by Twin Galaxies, the official record-keeping organisation for arcade games.

Picture
Now, enter - Karl Jobst, a YouTuber who has made a name for himself debunking gaming myths and exposing cheating scandals. Jobst's accusations against Mitchell ignited a firestorm, leading to a new legal battle.

As the saga unfolds, the former world record holder for Donkey Kong is embroiled in a courtroom showdown over allegations of cheating, but now it seems he can't even make it to the ring.

Mitchell's lawyers have informed the court that their client is unable to attend the upcoming trial, citing a mysterious "pre-existing commitment." The judge, clearly unimpressed, has given Mitchell a stern talking-to, demanding an explanation for his absence.

Meanwhile, the legal wrangling continues, with both sides digging in for what promises to be a battle royale of epic proportions. As the drama unfolds, one thing is certain: the world is watching with popcorn in hand, eager to see if Mitchell can finally clear his name or if Jobst will be crowned the ultimate victor in this high-stakes game of cat and mouse.

Google Search Monopoly

Google Found Guilty of Monopoly in Landmark Antitrust Case

As pretty much expected, a US judge has ruled that Google holds a monopoly in the search engine market.

The verdict, reached after a closely watched antitrust trial, could reshape the tech landscape.

The court found that Google's exclusive distribution agreements with companies like Apple and Samsung, which made Google Search the default option, were anticompetitive. These deals, worth billions of dollars annually, effectively locked out rivals and solidified Google's dominance.
Picture
While the court determined that Google's actions were anticompetitive, it did not find that these actions harmed consumers. This aspect of the ruling could have significant implications for future antitrust cases.
The decision marks a major victory for the US Department of Justice, which has been increasingly scrutinising the power of tech giants. It also raises questions about the future of the tech industry and the potential for increased regulation.

What are the potential implications of this ruling for consumers and the tech industry?

Potential Impacts:
  • Reshaping the Search Landscape: The ruling could force Google to restructure its business practices and potentially share its search technology with competitors.
  • Increased Consumer Choice: A more competitive search market could lead to the emergence of new search engines and innovative features.
  • Regulatory Precedent: The case sets a precedent for future antitrust cases involving other tech giants.

So, Bing, Yahoo, Duck Duck Go, Brave and others may indirectly get a boost from all of Google’s work in the search space.

What is Chromebook?

7/8/2024

A Chromebook is a type of laptop that runs on Chrome OS, Google's operating system.

Unlike traditional laptops that use Windows or macOS, Chromebooks rely heavily on internet connectivity and cloud storage.

Picture
Key features of Chromebooks include:

Simplicity: Chromebooks are designed to be easy to use, with a focus on basic functions like browsing the web, checking email, and creating documents.
Speed: Chromebooks are known for their fast boot-up times and snappy performance.
Security: Google places a strong emphasis on security, making Chromebooks less susceptible to malware and viruses.
Affordability: Chromebooks are generally more affordable than traditional laptops.
Cloud-based: Most of your data and applications are stored in the cloud, allowing you to access them from any device with an internet connection.

While Chromebooks excel at many tasks, they may not be suitable for everyone. If you require heavy-duty software, offline access to large files, or high-performance gaming, a traditional laptop might be a better choice.

If you’re thinking about life after Windows 10. Chromebook may be the answer or perhaps ChromeOS Flex to keep your old tech living a bit longer.

The AI Race: Detection vs. Deception

OpenAI's announcement of a new AI detection tool has ignited a fresh chapter in the ongoing battle between AI creators and those seeking to detect its output. While the 99.9% accuracy rate is impressive, it's essential to approach this technology with a critical eye.
Picture
How Does It Work?
OpenAI's method involves watermarking AI-generated text, leaving a subtle digital signature that can be identified by their detection tool. However, this approach is not foolproof. Adversaries can potentially circumvent the watermark through techniques like translation or paraphrasing.

The Limitations of Detection
The evolving nature of AI models means that detection tools will need constant updates to stay effective. As AI becomes more sophisticated, it's likely that new methods of evasion will emerge. Moreover, relying solely on detection tools to maintain academic integrity might not be sufficient.

A Broader Approach
To truly address the challenges posed by AI-generated content, a multifaceted approach is necessary. This includes:
  • Education: Teaching students about the ethical implications of AI and how to use it responsibly.
  • Human Evaluation: Incorporating human judgement to assess the quality and originality of work.
  • Collaboration: Fostering collaboration between educators, technologists, and policymakers to develop effective strategies.

While AI detection tools can play a role in maintaining academic integrity, they should not be seen as a silver bullet. A combination of human judgement and technological safeguards is essential to navigate the complexities of the AI era.

Do you think AI detection tools will ultimately be effective in preventing academic dishonesty?

Roku Streambar Pro: A Sound and Picture Upgrade

We’ve talked about adding a streaming stick to your old non-smart TV to give it a smart facelift.
Things like Google Chromecast and Amazon Firestick are a quick and easy way to get smart for just a few dollars.

Picture

Now Roku has put together a smart soundbar. So this baby is a major upgrade to your tele giving it smart performance with access to all the streaming options as well as a lift in sound that can only be described as instrumental. This soundbar gives any tele a much needed sound lift and lays on some virtual surround sound to boot giving you theatre quality sound.

Sound Performance:
While not a dedicated audiophile system, the Streambar Pro offers impressive sound for its size. Dialogue is clear, and there's a decent amount of bass without overwhelming the mix. While it doesn't match the immersive experience of high-end soundbars with multiple speakers, it's a significant upgrade from built-in TV speakers.

4K Streaming:
The integration of Roku's streaming capabilities is a major plus. With access to a vast library of apps and channels, you can enjoy your favourite shows and movies in stunning 4K resolution. The user interface is intuitive, making navigation effortless.

Value Proposition:
At its price point, the Roku Streambar Pro offers excellent value. It's a versatile solution for those looking to improve both the audio and visual performance of their TV without spending a fortune.

Shop around for a good price around $400AU if you’re keen.

Cyberattack Wipes Data From 13,000 Singapore Student Devices

A massive data breach has impacted thousands of Singaporean students after a cyberattack targeted the Mobile Guardian device management platform.

Picture
So the hackers hacked the App which then dished out its payload.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, resulted in the remote wiping of data from 13,000 iPads and Chromebooks used in local schools. While no student files were accessed illegally, the breach has raised serious concerns about the security of educational technology.
Mobile Guardian, the platform used by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to manage student devices and limit screen time, has been compromised. The company is investigating the incident, which has affected global users.
As a precautionary measure, MOE has decided to remove the Mobile Guardian app from all affected devices. Efforts are underway to restore normal device usage, and additional security measures are being implemented.
This is the second security incident involving Mobile Guardian in recent months. A previous breach in April resulted in the exposure of personal data for parents and staff from numerous schools.
The incident underscores the growing threat of cyberattacks on educational institutions and the critical importance of robust cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive student data.
