These models have the necessary processing power, thanks to their advanced chips, to handle the on-device AI processing that Apple Intelligence requires. If you have an older iPhone, unfortunately, you won't be able to access these new features. When Apple Intelligence first launched, it required about 4 gigabytes of free storage on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. But with the recent iOS 18.2 update, that requirement has nearly doubled to 7 gigabytes per device. This increase is due to the addition of several new AI-powered features, including Genmoji, ChatGPT integration with Siri, Image Playground, and more. Because Apple Intelligence processes much of its data directly on your device for privacy reasons, these features require downloading AI models, which take up space. The impact is even greater if you use Apple Intelligence across multiple devices. Using the AI features on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac will now consume a total of 21 gigabytes of your storage. And there's currently no way to reduce this by disabling individual features. Experts predict this storage demand will only continue to grow with future updates, potentially reaching 10 gigabytes per device in the coming months. So, if you're planning to buy a new Apple device, you might want to consider opting for a higher storage tier to accommodate these growing AI demands.
