Add More to Your Google Lens Search

Google Lens is an image recognition technology that lets you search using your camera or existing photos. It can identify objects, text, landmarks, and more, providing you with relevant information and actions.

1. Google Lens:

  • What it is: Google Lens is an image recognition technology that lets you search using your camera or existing photos. It can identify objects, text, landmarks, and more, providing you with relevant information and actions.

  • How to use it:
    • In the Google app: Open the Google app and tap the Lens icon (it looks like a square with a circle inside).
    • Point your camera: Point your camera at the object you want to search for.
    • Take a photo or select an existing one: You can either take a new photo or choose an image from your gallery.
    • Explore the results: Google Lens will analyze the image and provide you with relevant information, such as:
      • Identifying the object (e.g., "that's a type of flower called a rose").
      • Finding similar products online (e.g., "where to buy that lamp").
      • Translating text (e.g., "translate this menu from Spanish to English").
      • Copying text (e.g., "copy the Wi-Fi password from this sticker").
      • Identifying landmarks (e.g., "what is the name of this building?").

2. "Add to your search" using the microphone:

  • What it is: This feature allows you to combine visual search with voice search, refining your results by adding spoken words to your initial Lens query.
  • How to use it:
    1. Start with Google Lens: Follow the steps above to initiate a search using Google Lens.
    2. Tap the microphone icon: Once Lens has analyzed the image, you'll see a microphone icon, often accompanied by the text "Add to your search." Tap it.
    3. Speak your additional query: Speak the words you want to add to your search. For example, if you used Lens to identify a specific type of shoe, you could then say "in blue" or "size 10" to find those shoes in your desired color or size.

How they work together:

These two features work together to provide a more comprehensive and intuitive search experience. You can start with a visual search using Lens to identify an object and then use your voice to add context or refine your search, making it easier to find exactly what you're looking for.

Example:

Let's say you see a cool-looking chair in a magazine.

  1. Use Google Lens: You open the Google app, tap the Lens icon, and take a picture of the chair.
  2. Lens identifies the chair: Lens recognizes it as a mid-century modern armchair.
  3. Use "Add to your search": You tap the microphone icon and say "made of leather."
  4. Refined results: Google now shows you search results for mid-century modern armchairs specifically made of leather.

Try things like: colour, price, ...
